Michele M. Slater
- Senior Consultant
Michele Slater has over
13 years of experience in the electric industry. She received a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering with an
Energy Engineering Certificate from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1987. Her
career began with Georgia Power Company in 1988 where she served as an assistant
plant engineer at Plant Hatch. She was an Associate Engineer with Ebasco Services
from 1990 to 1992 and joined Slater Consulting in
1992.
While employed with
Georgia Power Co. and Ebasco Services Inc., Ms. Slater assisted in a variety of
projects to improve performance and upgrade plant systems, including the
following:

Evaluation of existing
waste water treatment (WWT) system at Purdom Station, City of Tallahassee,
design and installation specifications for an upgraded WWT system. |
 | Design and installation
specifications for a Flue Gas Desulphurization System (FGDS) and Baghouse at
Conemaugh Station, Penelec, for Clean Air Act compliance. |
 | Various tasks in the design and
installation of combustion turbines and heat recovery steam generators for
FPL’s Lauderdale Station, including support systems design and equipment
specifications. |
 | Selection of Fly Ash Handling System
for a coal-fired generating station. |
 | Piping analysis including support
evaluation, sizing and flow calculations. |
 | Oversight of daily operation and
maintenance and major overhauls of reactor support systems, including
equipment replacement, logic systems functional testing, safety reviews, and
assessment of impacts on plant performance |
Since joining Slater
Consulting in 1992, Ms. Slater has performed tasks and analyses in a variety of
consulting engagements, including the following:
 | Determination of the dispatch level
of a schedulable non-utility generator (NUG) on the New York State system. |
 | Development of an initial PROMOD III
database for a large foreign utility. |
 | Determination of the availability of
power and energy to a major industrial customer on the Idaho Power Company’s
system, under the terms of a special interruptible supply contract. |
 | Evaluation, study and tracking of
avoided costs for Sithe Energies, Inc. in New York State. |
 | Study of the market potential for
nuclear Exempt Wholesale Generators (EWG) in the Southeast. |
 | Determination of the avoided energy
costs on the Southern Company System, for a regulatory litigation against
Georgia Power Company. |
 | Research and support for civil and
regulatory litigation between two Qualifying Facility (QF) energy producers
and a large Florida Utility. |
 | Physical and economic performance
evaluation of a natural gas cogeneration facility in central Georgia. |
 | Evaluation of monetary damages
incurred by non-operating owners of a nuclear unit due to an NRC ordered
shutdown. |
